Beijing-based Bona Entertainment is teaming with Jackie Chan’s JC Group International and Singapore fund LM Media on the new action comedy ‘Big Soldier’ (working title). The film is currently in production in China’s Yunnan province and stars Jackie Chan, Wang Lee-hom and Korean singer Yoo Seung-jun.
Chinese filmmaker Ding Sheng (‘The Underdog Knight’) is directing the $25m film, which is set in the Warring States Period (476 BC-221 BC) in China. Chan plays an old soldier who abducts Wang’s character, a young general of an enemy state, and takes him on a long journey to collect the reward.
Wang, a Chinese-American actor, previously starred in Ang Lee’s ‘Lust, Caution’. The cast of ‘Big Soldier’ also includes newcomer Lin Peng, who was one of the performers during the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and Jackie Chan’s martial arts pupil Xu Dongmei.
The Chinese-language film is scheduled for release at the end of 2009.
