Does the Material Girl Have a Homeless Brother?

The Material Girl reportedly has an immaterial brother, or at least one with no roof over his head. According to the Michigan Messenger, Madonna’s older brother Anthony Ciccone has been living under a bridge in Traverse City, Mich.

So, what’s the homeless-for-a-year guy got to say about his little sister’s lack of interest in his predicament?

“My family turned their back on me, basically, when I was having a hard time,” he said. “You think I haven’t answered this kind of question a bazillion times—why my sister is a multibazillionarie, and I’m homeless on the street?”

“Never say never,” he said. “This could happen to anybody.”

Big brother Anthony reportedly lost his job at Ciccone Vineyard, owned by his father, in the nearby town of Suttons Bay, Mich., and now collects discarded bottles and cans to make money.

We know times are tough out there, but charity begins at home, right? And we’re guessing there just might possibly be someone out there who could shine a ray of light on Anthony’s dark situation.

But it’s not just Posh Spice that’s showing love.

“The first bouquets through the door were from Victoria, Geri (Halliwell) and Mel C. They came with little notes and that is always special to me, to get those from the girls,” Bunton said.

“The relationship we girls have will always be special. Now our kids are friends too, and as they grow, it will be wonderful to watch them all and the different stages in their lives.”

And watching them do karaoke to their mother’s songs? Precious.

Oprah Winfrey Gets Schooled in South Africa

Oprah Winfrey has been doing a pretty good job of remaining out of the spotlight since saying goodbye to 25 years on air, but she popped back up on the radar in South Africa today, where she received an honorary degree.

Well, Dr. Oprah does have a pretty nice ring to it.

The University of the Free State—whose 4,500-seat auditorium was, as one would expect, completely sold out for the star-honoring ceremony—awarded its 152nd honorary doctorate to Oprah, who threw her hands up in the air when told she was a “Kovsie,” or member of the university’s family.

Incidentally, Oprah happened to be in the country at the same time as First Lady Michelle Obama, and the two women dined together in Johannesburg Tuesday night. Talk about a power couple.

Britney Spears Ready to Get “Grimier”

Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald, a producer who’s worked with other hot singers such as Ke$ha and Katy Perry, is now working on Britney Spears’ follow-up to Circus.

“She’s an icon,” Dr. Luke said of Spears, whose new album will be “grimier” than ever. “She’s been around and always delivers, so there’s a lot for us to live up to.”

Indeed. She sets the bar high for dirtiness …

Dr. Luke, who co-produced and co-wrote the title track to Circus, says he has some new ideas in mind that will help shift the pop star’s musical style.

“It’s early in the process, but I want [the sound] to get harder in some ways,” he says “and maybe a little more deep into electronic – even grimier.”

Sounds filthy. Spears has reportedly finished three new songs for the album, and grimy new release is slated for an early 2011 release. Supposedly.

Britney Spears, Glee Torn a New One By Parents Television Council

Last month’s Britney Spears Glee episode earned a show-record 13.3 million viewers and several spots on the Billboard charts. But the response wasn’t all positive.

Some reviewers felt it was fluff from a series renowned for great writing on weighty topics (see this week’s “Grilled Cheesus”). Others were just plain offended.

The Parents’ Television Council deemed the “Britney/Brittany” episode the worst thing on TV that week, a “pandering tribute” to a “toxic teen role model.” Ouch!

Part of the PTC’s beef was that more children are likely to watch Glee than other series, making the content more objectionable than that of all other programs.

On top of bashing the “skimpy outfits,” the group calls the episode an “endorsement of narcotics abuse, public masturbation, and school-sanctioned burlesque.”

The PTC also slammed the focus on Britney Spears personally.

“Perhaps most troubling is the deification of a troubled popstar into a symbol of empowerment and self-esteem,” they said in a post on their website this week.

“Considering her stints in rehab, public breakdowns and questionable parenting skills, there is absolutely no way Spears should be considered a role model.”

The scathing indictment concludes with this: “The producers of the show can spare us the old song-and-dance about fallen celebs turning their lives around.”

Really, PTC? Yes, she goes shopping in lingerie, but come on. Baby steps. The Glee tribute was kind of weak, but was this brutal tirade really that necessary?

Britney Spears: Not Engaged to Jason Trawick This Time Either!

We like Britney Spears’ official website actively browses and shoots down bogus gossip about the pop singer in a separate section entitled the BS Report.

This way, rather than reporting engagement rumors every other month and having to retract them later, we just let Spears verify they’re full of crap first.

Responding to a new report that boyfriend Jason Trawick popped the question during their Hawaiian getaway, the site once again issued a “BS ALERT!

“While the two, who have been dating for more than a year now, aren’t engaged yet, they did have marriage on their minds during their hot vacation.

Britney Spears and Jason Trawick toured a wedding chapel at a Maui resort and watched a wedding from their hotel balcony. Wow! Stop the presses.

As for their romantic future, says a source close to the star and her ex-agent, “They’re really taking things day by day and really enjoying their time.”

Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie: Married!

Mike Comrie and Hilary Duff have made it official.

The singer-actress and NHL hockey player were married Saturday during an intimate ceremony in Santa Barbara, Calif., according to reports. Congratulations!

Hilary, in a mermaid gown by Vera Wang, swapped vows with Mike in front of a sunset and 100 of their closest family and friends. She was escorted down the aisle by her mother Susan Duff, while sister Haylie Duff was maid of honor.

The couple, who began dating in 2007, first met on a trip when they both were visiting a resort in Idaho. “We were all on the same plane and it was kind of, I guess, maybe a bit of a fluke. She calls it ironic. No I’m kidding!” Comrie said.

“It [was] one of those things where we were all in a group … we spent the weekend all hanging out.” One thing led to another, and the rest is history.

Comrie proposed to Hilary Duff during a Hawaiian getaway in February – a move that came as a very pleasant surprise to both the Texan and her family.

“I’ve never met anyone who can say a bad word about him,” Duff gushed in March 2009. “He’s generous, caring and sunny. We just laugh our heads off.”

Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom: Expecting?

One of the celebrity world’s most beautiful couples, Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom, just got married in secret following years of engagement rumors.

Might there be another bombshell piece of news set to drop?

Not only did they pull off a totally under-the-radar wedding, but an Us Weekly source says there’s another big story they’ve been keeping under wraps:

“She’s definitely pregnant. Miranda’s thrilled,” says a source close to the supermodel and Australia native, who wed the English actor earlier this month.

“She’s telling all her friends, mostly other models, about it.”

While a pal says no official announcement will be made, Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr will have a hard time keeping this hidden for obvious reasons.

“She poses in lingerie,” says the friend. “It will be obvious soon enough.”

The beautiful ride, who kicked off a Caribbean getaway with Bloom at Anguilla’s Viceroy resort on July 17, certainly hasn’t hidden her desire for a child.

“I’ve been open about wanting to be a mother one day,” she told an Australian newspaper. “And I’ve always thought Orlando would be a great dad!”

Lady Gaga Braves Rain, Wows Today Show Crowd

A little rain couldn’t slow down Lady Gaga’s reign.

The singer played a full half-hour set on the Today show, belting out her newest song “You and I” (reportedly written for boyfriend Luc Carl) and some of her other hits.

Originally wearing oversized sparkle-encrusted bug goggles, she finished the routine without them. She did her traditional heel-banging on the piano, not to worry.

America Ferrera: Engaged to Ryan Piers Williams!

America Ferrera is engaged to marry her longtime boyfriend, Ryan Piers Williams, her rep confirmed earlier today. Congratulations to the happy couple!

The actress first met Williams at the University of Southern California when he cast her in his student film years ago. They’ve been inseparable since.

The first engagement rumors surrounding the couple were back in February 2007. They waited awhile to make it official, but have always gone strong.

On Wednesday, the actress sported her new diamond ring on the red carpet at the Edinburgh Film Festival screening of The Illusionist in Scotland.
